Craps Newsletter – November 2002

SPECIAL DEDICATION

Tribute to a Craps Player from THE BONE MAN.

This issue of the NextShooter Newsletter is dedicated to my Dad, Douglas (84) whois recovering from 4-Way Heart Bypass Surgery. My Dad started rolling dice in 1944when, as a Merchant Marine, during World War II, “Street Dice” on a blanket wasrolling onboard his merchant ship delivering supplies to our troops. This shortstory might just typify the view that many of the NextShooter members have aboutthis often mysterious game. I have watched my Dad play on many occasion and certainlymust say how much I respect his persistence. He could stand at a craps table forjust about 3 days solid without eating, sleeping or going to the bathroom. I havewatched him try just about every system imaginable.

I would say that he is more a recreational type gambler though, one who recognizeshis limitations and one who never expected to win a fortune. He has often clearlystated to me that he could be spending his disposable monies on yachts or on fishingtrips. I shudder, however, to think of all the time he has wasted trying to figureout a way to get a consistent return from Flat Bets on the Pass or Come Lines ORon Place Bets. He, like many of you, has spent a good portion of his lifetime practicingrolls of the dice at home. I can personally attest that he has worn out at leastfour craps layout felts at home over the past 60 years or so.

One thing is for sure… Doug never took into account the options provided by MULTIPLETABLE ODDS during his practice sessions. And, when playing in a casino, he wouldstill often play hunch bets on the Propositions in the middle of the table. I don’tknow if I will ever be able to convince him that shopping for a casino that provides10X, 20X or 100X Odds is the smartest way to manage a gaming bank. All I know isthat he is doing quite well after his surgery and that I can hardly wait to seehim up and at the tables again.

The TRUE meaning of FREE ODDS

Show Review – THE DRIFTERS

Last night THE BONE MAN boogied to downtown Vegas to Fitzgeralds to see an old timerock and roll favorite, THE DRIFTERS. The event center at Fitzgeralds, located onthe second floor is very intimate and seats only about 100. There is not a bad seatin the house. They were just GREAT, blasting out some of their great hits from the50’s and 60’s such as “Under the Boardwalk”, “Up on the Roof”, “There Goes My Baby”,and “Magic Moment”. Showtimes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays are at 7pm and 9pm withtickets at the door only $12.95. A REAL BARGAIN FOR GOOD OLD ROCK AND ROLL FANS.

ROLLING AT HOME

How many of you are rolling the bones at home trying to figure out a way to masterthis mysterious game? If you have been doing this without taking into account thepercentage of opportunity afforded by Free Odds thenyou have been wasting all that time. You need to start considering the possibilityof applying your pattern of wagers with 5X, 10X, 20X and 100X FREE ODDS offeringswhile you are practicing all those rolls. This, the most often overlooked optionon casino craps tables, is to a certain extent what NextShooter is all about.

The plain and simple fact of the matter is that most players just don’t shop smartfor their casino of choice AND don’t take advantage of the best percentage of opportunityprovided by those SELECT casinos. NextShooter conveniently lists table odds in ourcasino directory. As a dealer myself, and working ata casino that provides only Double Odds, it is amazing that all those players keepshowing up at my table anyway!

WHERE TO BUY YOUR OWN CRAPS TABLE

Full tables can be purchased on the Internet from Pokerboard and from Kardwell.

Felt Layouts can be purchased from the Gambler’s General Store.

Here is the answer to the October quiz:

TRUE OR FALSE: Most craps dealers in Nevada are paid minimum or close to minimumwage by the casinos even if they deal multiple games.

Most income by dealers comes from TOKES (tips) from players. As such, the dealers are really ON YOUR SIDE, hoping that players WIN. So the realityof the matter is that dealers work more so FOR YOU than for the casino.
